West front of Horse Guards from Horse Guards Parade, Westminster, London, c1860. Designed by William Kent, the building was executed by John Vardy 1750-60. A group of people, some wearing top hats, is gathered around the Cadiz Memorial, an artillery piece on a pedestal. The 'ghost' figures in the image testify to the long exposure time involved.
