View across the Thames at Stepney, London, c1945-c1965. On the river is the 'Royal Eagle' paddle steamer returning to her moorings in the Pool of London, with a tug boat, left. On the right are the distinctive turrets of the Tower of London. The 'Royal Eagle' was one of many ships requisitioned by the Royal Navy during World War II, when it was used as an accommodation ship. The skyline looks very empty compared to the mass of buildings that has sprung up since.
