The front elevation of St Thomas' Church of England Day School, Birmingham. Almost the entire facade is made up of windows. The top row is arched, with small round windows above. The introduction of steel framing in buildings during the19th century meant that the walls of buildings no longer provided the structural stability, therefore enabling entire elevations to be glazed.
