People relaxing on Tower Beach, London, c1945-c1955. View of Tower Beach with children and adults relaxing there on this summer's day. Behind is the Tower of London, London's fortress since Norman times. The beach was a playground for the children of the East End; sand was dumped to create an artificial beach but was eventually washed away.
