Star Inn, Alfriston, East Sussex. Three patrons crowd around the door of the Star Inn, Alfriston, a classic timber-framed building of the 15th century, to watch the photographer. The first floor is jettied, and the bay windows are carved respectively with St George fighting the dragon, two snakes, and a shield. The large carved head to the left of the picture may be a ship's figure head. Another 15th-century inn is directly opposite.
