West front and parterre, Kirby Hall, Northamptonshire, 1998. Kirby Hall was one of the finest houses built in the 17th century. Begun in 1570 by Sir Humphrey Stafford, it was completed by Sir Christopher Hatton, Lord Chancellor to Elizabeth I. It is seen here across the west garden, laid out as a parterre of the 1690s.
