Finchale Priory, Durham, from the wooded bank of the River Wear, 1999. The monastic ruins are seen here from Finchale Banks, the steep wooded slope on the opposite bank of the River Wear. Finchale Priory was founded in 1196 as a Benedictine Priory on the site of the hermitage of St Godric.
