Byland Abbey, North Yorkshire, 1998. This view looks from the south transept of the monastic church towards the nave, with the 13th-century tiled south transept floor in the foreground. Much of the surviving remains date from the 12th century. The Cistercian abbey of Byland sits in the shadow of the Hambledon Hills.
