Calshot Castle and coastguard tower, Hampshire, 1995. This view from the south shows how the flared apron of the curtain wall slopes into the stone-lined moat. The new coastguard tower can be seen in the background. Calshot Castle was built in 1539-40 as an artillery fort to guard the entrance to Southampton Water.
