Hampton Court Palace, viewed from the south bank of the River Thames, 1945-1965. Started by Cardinal Wolsey in 1514, the Palace passed to King Henry VIII in 1529 when Wolsey fell from favour. It was extensively altered by Henry. The last monarch to use the Palace was George II.
