Gas holder in Upper Grove, Margate, Kent, 2000. Viewed from behind terraced housing. Gasometers were prominant features in the town landscape. Every town used to have a gasworks where coal gas was made and stored. With the advent of natural gas, gasometers have become redundant and many have been demolished.
