Model of the Orford Merman, Orford Castle, Suffolk, 1997. The castle keep seen today at Orford was built by Henry II in the 12th century. A strange tale associated with the Castle relates to a merman, who was captured by fishermen in the later 12th century but escaped back to the sea.
