Machine worker, Cunard Shell Works, Birkenhead, Merseyside, 1917. Blank steel forgings were sent to this site from a factory about 4 miles away. The Cunard works had only one function: the finishing of shells. Each person was given a particular role in the production line. This was how factory production would continue after the end of the War.
