Horse Guards Parade, Whitehall, London, 2002. The parade ground was used during the medieval period as a tilt-yard (an area for jousts). A spectacular tournament was staged here in 1540 by Henry VIII. The Horse Guards building, designed by William Kent, was constructed in the 1750s.
