Houses of Parliament, Westminster, London, 2002. The House of Commons and the House of Lords reside in the Palace of Westminster, an icon of London, Britain and British government. The oldest part of the palace is Westminster Hall, the long hall seen here between the clock tower and the road. This was built by King William Rufus, son of William the Conqueror, in 1097. Much of the present building was designed by Charles Barry and Auguste Pugin, and was constructed between 1837 and 1858, when the clock tower was completed.
