The promenade at Cliftonville, Margate, Kent, 1890-1910. Holidaymakers stroll along the promenade. A line of bathing machines can be seen in the water below, allowing swimmers to enter the water in relative privacy. They were designed by a Margate resident, Benjamin Beale, in 1753.
