Cranfield Windmill, Cranfield, Bedfordshire, 1933. There are three main types of windmill in England. Post mills are constructed about a central timber pillar, around which the body of the mill rotates. Smock mills have wooden towers containing milling machinery. Tower mills, like this one, are usually brick constructions. Both smock and tower mills have a rotating cap onto which the sails are attached.
