St Thomas' Hospital, Lambeth, London, c1871-1922. Exterior view of the west face of hospital, founded in the 12th century and rebuilt in the 19th to adopt 'Nightingale Wards'. These wards allowed maximum ventilation and the dispersal of foul air.
