Cizhou stoneware offering bowl, late Tang dynasty-Five Dynasties period, China, 10th century. A high-footed altar offering bowl with nearly flat everted mouth rim and widely splayed high foot. The grey stoneware body is covered with a white slip with green splashes in the glaze, covered by a transparent glaze stopping short of the base. The main section has moulded and applied Buddhist figures and swirling studs under the slip and glaze.
