Changsha celadon bowl with brown and green underglaze decoration, Five Dynasties period, China, 10th century. A bowl of five-petalled flower metal shape from the Changsha kilns. The interior is decorated with green and brown stripes radiating from the centre like the stamens of a flower, all under a crackled green-celadon glaze which extends halfway down the exterior. There is extensive greenish phosphatic pooling in the centre of the interior and where the glaze on the exterior has pooled at the edge of the glaze. This bowl owes its inspiration both from metal with its shape and a flower from its decoration.
