Yue celadon covered box with parrots, early Northern Song dynasty, China, late 10th-11th century. A Yue celadon covered box, its cover decorated with a carved parrot and floral patterns surrounded by a triple band of raised lines and an outer band of impressed scrolls. The greyish clay body is plain with splayed footrim and the base shows traces of a ring of spur marks. The whole box is covered with a greyish celadon glaze. Parrots were a motif found on quite a number of Yue pieces of 10th and 11th century.
