Cizhou white-rimmed temmoku tea bowl, Northern Song dynasty, China, 11th century. A white-rimmed temmoku tea bowl with slightly everted rim, the narrow foot and base unglazed showing a close-grained blue-grey body. The interior and exterior both have a mirror-black glaze, the white-glazed rim slightly overlapping at the join showing extensive crackling and some earth discolouration. The colour of the body indicates its Cizhou origin. Similar contemporaneous bowls were more commonly made in Henan but the body material there has a buff colour.
