Covered box, early Southern Song dynasty, China, 1127-1150. A circular celadon covered box, the cover and base fired together, the sides with multiple ridges in low relief, and the cover with similar ridges in the broad outer ring. The central medallion has floral sprays in low relief, probably of camelia and convolvulus flowers, all under a blue green celadon glaze. The colour of this box is the preferred colour of the period and the decoration and colour closely imitate contemporary Koryo celadons.
