Yaozhou black glazed tea bowl with brown chevrons round the edge, Jin dynasty, China, 12th century. A shallow tea bowl with slightly everted rim. It is glazed all over (other than the base and foot which reveal the typical Yaozhou foot and body) with an unusual purplish-brown-black glaze of dark aubergine colour, the rim is decorated round the edge with cursively drawn brown chevrons.
