Stemmed bulbous jar with floral design, Southern Song dynasty, 13th century. A small stemmed bulbous jar from Hengshan kiln, Hunan province, the body of purplish-brown clay, the neck, lip and interior covered with dark yellowish-green glaze. The central section is painted with two sprays of lotus in green and brown on a thin greyish slip. The stemmed foot and bottom section are unglazed, but have a purplish brown slip.
