Jizhou black glazed flower pot with cut-out prunus sprays, Southern Song dynasty, China, 13th century. A black glazed circular Jizhou flower pot. The base is unglazed and has three stubby feet showing the greyish buff body. The sides are almost vertical, the mouth has a horizontally turned-in rim. The sides and rim are covered with a brownish-black glaze dribbling into the interior, the sides have two large unglazed silhouettes of prunus sprays which were covered during the glaze process.
