Rice measure jar with Jizhou type black glaze, Southern Song dynasty, China, 13th century. A small jar from Ganzhou kiln, Jiangxi province, of so-called rice measure shape with rolled lip above a vertical section about 2.5cm deep, the rest of the jar swelling out, angled in towards the base covered with a brown-black glaze with white phosphatic splashes. The lower quarter and base are unglazed showing the light brown body.
