Gilt bronze statue of a lohan seated on a rush mat, late Ming dynasty, China, 1600-1644. A bronze statue of an emaciated seated lohan, a disciple or follower of Buddha who has attained a higher level of understanding of the universe. His hands, one on top of the other, are resting on his left knee, with traces of gilding affixed by red lacquer.
