Wood and lacquer figure of Guanyin, China, 1644-1700. Early Qing dynasty carving of Guanyin holding a baby in her arms, standing on top of a broad rock. The figure is made of heavily perfumed wood, probably sandalwood. Guanyin is dressed in flowing robes, the flesh parts are coloured with gilt red lacquer.
