Black jade tiger, Western Han dynasty, China, 206 BC-8 AD. A jade tiger tightly curled with all four feet facing the front. The tail is flat and comes between the legs to curl over the back. The mouth is open in a roar. The stone is of smooth blackish colour, the details are greatly simplified with the ears just being small slashes.
