Jade pebble with prunus and inscribed couplet, Qianlong period, Qing dynasty, China, 18th century. A greyish white oval jade pebble decorated with gnarled prunus blossom branch with buds and five petalled flowers in low relief. There is a 13 character inscription and two seal marks beautifully written in Kai Shu script of a style associated with Qianlong's reign. The inscribed couplet has been translated as follows: 'A twig reflects its shadow over the clear water, witness to the endless flowers of spring'.
