Jade oval seal with phoenix finial, Tang dynasty-Northern Song dynasty, China, 9th-11th century. An oval seal of yellowish jade with brown suffusions topped with a phoenix with biforcated tail hanging over the edge of the seal. The neck and parrot-like beaked head are curled back on the body. The seal has a concave section on the shoulder, all round fine incised details.
