Jade tiger plaque, Shang dynasty, Anyang phase, China, c1400-1100 BC. An altered green jade tiger plaque of flat thin form. The tiger's paws, ears in the shape of a recumbent 'C', and head are worked in typical Shang style. Part of the tail has been broken off. The reverse is similarly carved with extensive traces of cinnabar. There is a conical perforation at the mouth.
