Carved celadon bowl, early Ming dynasty, China, 15th century. A small carved celadon bowl of broad shallow form. The interior is delicately incised with a central roundel of a single peony flower among curved leafy stems encircled round the sides with a formal peony meander repeated on the exterior. The lipped rim has a foliate meander, all beneath a good sea-green glaze. The base has an unglazed base ring that has burnt orange in the firing.
