Shiny black circular pottery basin and cover, Han dynasty, China, 206 BC-220 AD. The basin is plain with outwards sloping sides and protruding squared ridge round the rim. The base is without a footrim. The cover has a squat lotus-bud-like finial and three bands outlined with double incised lines. Each band is stamped with florets separated in the two lower bands with carved groups of flecks looking like rain showers.
