Blue and white Shonsui-style saucer, Japan, 19th century. Small Shonzui-style saucer painted in the interior with dense brocade like pattern of five roundels on a deep blue background under a narrow cross-hatched band. The rim is dressed in iron brown. The exterior is deeply carved with spiralling lines under a yingqing-type glaze. The base has a poorly written six-character Chenghua mark, but the piece is 19th century. Shonsui ware was Chinese porcelain made for import into Japan, originally in the 17th century.
