Ovoid blue and white vase, Transitional period, China, c1640. Large vase of squat rounded form with a wide neck, slightly flared rim and bulbous body. The decoration is painted in underglaze blue of so-called 'violets in milk' tone with vases and planters of various shapes holding flowers, a deep bowl with swimming fish, extensive v-ticks on the ground and anhua incised bands around the rim and above the foot. The base is unglazed.
