Gilt bronze Lama, Tibet, 17th century. A gilt bronze portrait figure of a lama with crown-like cap, probably Rangjung Dorje of the Kagyupa sect. The figure is seated on a rectangular plinth with cushion like sides dressed in elaborate robes bulging and pleated at the back. The right arm is bare and held in the gesture of calling the earth for witness (bhumisparsa mudra). The borders have floral incisions. The hat is formal and has a top knot.
