Gilt brass Lama, probably Nasa Tragpupa, Mongolia, 17th century. A gilt brass lama, probably the Sakya Lama Nasa Tragpupa. The figure is shown seated in the vajra asana pose on a double lotus throne with petals extending all around. His hands are held in the 'calling the earth as witness' gesture (bhumisparsa mudra). The features and patchwork type garment are well-modelled. In front of the seated figure is a double vajra. The base is sealed and has a gilded double vajra identifying the piece as of Mongolian origin.
