Black lacquer cupstand, Qing dynasty, China, 18th century. A black lacquer nine-bracketed cupstand with peach, pomegranate and finger-citron sprays in gold painting with a surrounding border of palmettes. The reverse is plain. There is a raised circular section in the middle which shows that the piece was a cupstand. The three particular fruit sprays chosen are sometimes referred to as 'The Three Abundances' and were a popular and auspicious combination during the Qing dynasty.
