Gilt brass Guanyin, late Ming dynasty, China, 1550-1644. A small gilt brass figure of a bodhisattva (probably Guanyin) standing on a semicircular lotus plinth with hands held in the vajra mudra. The figure has flowing robes and one arm bent at the elbow raised in blessing from which pendulant sleeves hang. The other hand holds a skull cup (an attribute of Guanyin). The head has elaborately coiffured hair built up to a point and bound with tassels and platted at the back. There also large circular earrings and an elaborate necklace.
