Burlwood lotus pod, China, 17th century (?). A piece of burlwood naturalistically carved in the form of a desiccated lotus pod with stem. The black burls have been used to simulate the seeds of the lotus. The exterior has staining and incising to simulate the outside of the lotus pod.
