White jade chignon, Ming dynasty, China, 1368-1644. A small white jade hair chignon of rhomboid shape with pierced sides and open base. The piece is decorated with three raised ridges, one at each end and one double-ridged one in the centre rising out of a rectangular patch in the centre.
