Bone wrist protector with apsaras, Liao dynasty, China, 10th century. A small bone wrist protector (known as a gou in falconry circles) of oblong shape tapering towards both ends. The top has low relief decoration of two apsaras holding a vessel all on a wavy patterned ground. There are two pierced slots near the edge at the widest part for a leather strap to tie the fitting on to the wrist.
