Dated gilt-bronze seated Buddha on a plinth with long inscription, Hongwu period, early Ming dynasty, China, 1398. A dated gilt bronze Buddha seated with head slightly forward on a lotus throne atop a stepped hexagonal plinth. His right hand is shown in the bhumisparsamudra (earth-touching gesture). On the base of the lotus throne and plinth is a lengthy inscription identifying this Buddha as one of 5048 cast in 1398.
