'In Bridewell beating hemp', plate IV of The Harlot's Progress, 1732; the harlot is now beating hemp in Bridewell Prison, a House of Correction for prostitutes etc in Tothill Fields, London. The warder stands by her holding a whip, indicating the punishment that will follow if she does not work hard. Third and final state of plate. One of a set of six plates.
