Charles Bridge, Prague, Czech Republic. The building of the Charles Bridge over the Vltava began in 1357 during the reign of Charles IV, King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor. The bridge is built of stone, 516 metres long, and has 16 arches protected with ice guards. The rows of statues on either side of the bridge were added in c1700.
