Great Man-Made River monument, Tripoli, Libya, late 20th century. Started in 1980, the Great Man-Made River project is one of the largest engineering schemes in the world. The pipeline is constructed from sections of 4-metre diameter conduit and is about 1,600 km long. It supplies water from the aquifers in the south to the cities on the coast. This sculpture is made from a section of the pipeline.
