Letter from John Dryden to Laurence Hyde, c1682-1683. Letter from the poet John Dryden to Laurence Hyde, Earl of Rochester, First Lord of the Treasury on his necessities, begging for a half-year's salary (as Poet Laureate and Historiographer) and for a post in the Customs or Excise. Without date but probably written in 1682 or 1683. He was made collector of customs in the Port of London on 17th December, 1683.
