Letter from Robert Clive to Thomas Pelham-Holles, 23rd February 1757. Letter, written from near Calcutta by Clive of India when Lt-Colonel commanding the Madras forces, to Pelham-Holles, Duke of Newcastle, First Lord of the Treasury, reporting the recovery of Calcutta, his defeat of the army of the Nawab Suraj-Dowlah in the outskirts, and the conclusion of peace and an allliance.
